Dress Successfully with correct Body language

As you probably know, body language matters. Words only make up seven percent of what we say to one another; the majority of what we really mean is encoded in how we move our bodies, leaving others to constantly make assumptions based on things like feet placement and shoulder stance. I guess that explains why flirting is most effective with a simple wink or lingering glance — no words necessary.

What is body language? It’s the process of communicating nonverbally through conscious or unconscious gestures and movements. We can all use some improvement. Improving your body language can help you in multiple areas of your life including your dating, relationship, career, and mingle capabilities. It’s the first thing people notice about you.

 

Ways to have confident body language

  1. Make Eye Contact. Learn to use eye contact effectively when you are talking to someone. Some of us never make eye contact with our conversation partner when we are talking.Looking at someone in the eye shows confidently. It makes you look like you can trust what they are saying.

  2. Lean forward. When you are in a conversation, leaning forward indicates interest and attention. While it can be tempting to maintain distance if you are socially anxious, doing so conveys the message that you are disinterested or aloof.

  3. Smile. Smiling makes you feel good. Smiling opens you to receive positive emotions from whoever you are talking to. It also helps them receive positive energy from you.

  4. Be comfortable with taking up space. Taking up more space by standing with feet shoulder-width apart or sitting with your feet planted firmly on the ground is an indicator of confidence.  By doing this, you are showing that you know where you belong and you’re not afraid to be seen or to make yourself comfortable in your space.Don’t over-do it. Maintaining a comfortable stance that takes up an appropriate amount of space for your body size will make you appear much more confident than you will if you stand as though you’re in an overly-full elevator.

  5. Watch your hands. Be careful about touching your face or your neck; both are indications that you feel anxious, nervous, or afraid. Confident people don't make these types of movements.

  6. Walk with confidence. The way that you walk can indicate how self-confident you feel. Walking with small steps, walking indecisively or walking faster than others, can come off as insecure.Taking larger strides and keeping your eyes fixed on your destination, rather than on the floor, can indicate that you are confident both in yourself and in what you’re doing and can give you the appearance of walking with purpose.

  7. Keep your head up. Don't keep your eyes on the ground, it might make you seem insecure and a bit lost. Keep your head up straight and your eyes towards the horizon.

  8. Dress for success. Be stylish, there is no need to overdo it. How you dress is a form of expression. What do you want your expression to say? Obviously it depends on where you are going in terms of what you should wear but the fact remains the same. Dressing for success will help you in any area in life. It’s an easy way to increase your worth.

  9. Keep a good attitude. Last but not least, keep a positive, open and relaxed attitude. How you feel will come through in your body language and can make a major difference. You can change your body language but as all new habits it takes a while. Especially things like keeping you head up might take time to correct if you have spent thousands of days looking at your feet.

Take a couple of these body language bits to work on every day for three to four weeks. By then they should have developed into new habits and something you'll do without even thinking about it.

If not, keep on until it sticks. Then take another couple of things you'd like to change and work on them.
